Mortenson opens first Canadian operation in Mississauga, Ont.

Construction firm Mortenson, an affiliate of U.S.-based M.A. Mortenson Company, has opened its first office in Canada.

Mortenson Construction offers a complete range of services, including planning, program management, preconstruction, engineering, general contracting, design-build and construction management.

The new office is at 6711 Mississauga Road in Mississauga, Ont. Jones Lang LaSalle, a financial and professional services firm specializing in real estate, helped bring the U.S. construction firm to Mississauga.

In Canada, Mortenson has erected — including wind projects currently under construction — 328 wind turbines, generating 687.2 megawatts of clean, natural wind power. Mortenson completed its first wind-power project in Canada in 2006 when it completed the Prince 1 Wind Power Project near Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.

The company’s latest wind power project is the Comber Wind Project, which will be built near Lakeshore, Ont. south of Lake St. Clair.

The Comber project is being built right next to the Gosfield Wind Project, which Mortenson completed in September.

For this project, Mortenson is erecting 72 Siemens 2.3-megawatt turbines for a total projected output of 165.6 megawatts, which will provide electricity to more than 21,500 households.
