Employment in warehousing and transportation sees steady growth as manufacturing and oil & gas jobs slowly recover.

• The oil and gas sector was hit hard in the economic downturn that Alberta experienced in 2014. But, while  the Oil and Gas and Manufacturing sectors  saw drastic decreases in employment, employment in Transportation and Warehousing increased.

• Quick access to major arterial highways, a cost effective business environment due to no provincial or payroll tax and the availability of serviced land are all characteristics that make  Calgary  an ideal location for distribution in western Canada. For these reasons, the demand for distribution space was resilient through the economic downturn and is now continuing to increase. Notable tenants currently occupying the market including Walmart, Lowes, Whirlpool and Canadian Tire have all contributed to positive absorption in the Calgary Industrial market.

• We are seeing continued job growth and improvement in both the Manufacturing and Oil and Gas sectors.  Although the recovery is slow,  the economic outlook for Alberta is one of continued optimism.
