JLL secures new smart building technology director

Dan Burns to shape technology strategy and direction for JLL Smart Building Program

CHICAGO, Jan. 23, 2018 — As the demand for smart buildings continues to grow exponentially, JLL is expanding its investment in top technology talent. Dan Burns joins JLL as Senior Vice President, Technology Strategy Director for the Smart Building Program.

Burns brings 25 years of knowledge and experience in information technology, building automation and Internet of Things (IoT). He will be responsible for overseeing the technology and integration strategy to enable productive and profitable workplaces.

Burns' appointment follows recent investments in top talent globally, including Akshay Thakur, EMEA Director for the Smart Building Program; Yann Palmore, Mike Carter, and Mike DeNamur in AMER; and the promotion of Darlene Pope to Global Practice Lead.

In his new role, Burns will shape the technology strategy and direction for JLL's global Smart Building Program. He will work closely with clients to advise them on the value of technology as the enabler of a smart workplace, develop customized technology roadmaps, and oversee the design, integration and delivery of smart building projects. Additionally, he will serve as a technical advisor on JLL's Global Internet of Things Operating Committee.  

Burns is an experienced Fortune 100 company executive with a strong background in the development and implementation of customer-focused technology solutions. He joins JLL from Philips Lighting, where he led a team of solution architects and services managers and oversaw all new product and service offerings for the North American Systems Center.

Prior to joining Philips Lighting, Burns held leadership roles at companies including MPC Energy, Boeing Company and Johnson Controls. Throughout his career, he has established a proven history of successful business development, technology integration, and business management.

Burns holds a B.S. in management and consumer studies from the University of Maryland and served on the Board of Directors for the In-Building Wireless Alliance from 2006-2009.
